Nature Lodge Kinabatangan

Our little "Kingfisher" cabin
I was picked up at Sepilok and we drove south about an hour, with a rest stop at a fairly dodgy roadside dive with the least appealing food I've seen since Western Halls at JCU. I bought biscuits instead. We drove for a while longer including about 20 minutes on an unsealed road, then got on a boat for a short ferry across the river. We arrived at this awesome property right on the riverbank. I had booked a cabin so Yvon and I are sharing it. It's really cute!! Very rustic but with our own little bathroom in the back. The privacy is a very small curtain so we are becoming better friends, hahaha.
Rustic!! But comfortable.

Monkey crossing
After a welcome juice and briefing, we put our stuff away and went straight to the river boats for a 2-hour cruise downriver. Right away we saw a small crocodile (note to self: don't go for a swim!), and after a short journey the long-tailed macaques came out. Down further we found proboscis monkeys, and as the light fell, more and more monkeys came out to the riverside trees. Apparently the proboscis monkeys fight for good positions every night, and always sleep with their backs facing the river. We saw hornbills flying overhead, and a beautiful sunset. As we headed home we drove under the Orang utan rope crossing, where several proboscis monkeys were going over the river to find a place for the night. They were very funny to watch, especially the mothers and babies.

Dinner was "chicken" and "beef", but delicious. (At the Sepilok Jungle Resort they had "Wildlife chicken special", don't think there was too much chicken in that!) So I'm not sure what we ate but it tasted good and I feel fine!
The leech
I skipped the night walk because of leeches, but of course someone brought one back on his jacket and since everyone else was terrified of it, I took it out and put it on a bush. Can't squish 'em, they're bulletproof.
