Tawau, Sabah

We just came back from 3 days on Mabul Island, where (though they told us otherwise) the internet wasn't working so no chance to update this. I'll put some posts up about that and slot them into chronological order (then... this message will self-destruct...)

Dinner at the Seafood Market
When we got back to Semporna we found that a Dutch couple were also going to Tawau for the night. The guy at Scuba Junkie told us that Tawau is the most boring place on earth and we were better to stay in Semporna, but we're wise to that game now and hailed a taxi anyway. I was expecting a dodgy, tiny, hot little car but it was a luxurious, airconditioned ride that we all appreciated for the 2 hours. It actually ended up costing less than the local bus. Yvonne had found a cheap hotel in a Lonely Planet so we dropped the others off at Kingston Executive Hotel, and went around to Grand Borneo Hotel. One look at the area and the outside of the hotel, and we hot-footed it back to the Kingston Executive! We have a great room with aircon, a huge shower, big beds and the best pillows yet in Borneo, and it's RM99 ($30) a night. I think I might stay in Borneo forever.

After checking in we met the Dutch couple and headed off to the seafood market, where we had some of the best food I've seen in ages. Rock lobster (actually, they were similar to bugs), prawns and asian vegies, and a delicious, cold beer.

Today we're going to go shopping to buy new clothes, and do some laundry. We're very tired from all that diving and sun.
